Madavanaparambu and Kesari Balakrishna Pillai of England
Near the Albert Bridge in London in a narrow garden there is a bronze statue by Bochm. It is the Sage of Chelsea-Thomas Carlyle-the “Kesari Balakrishna Pillai of English Literature”. Carlyle shifted from Scotland and settled in Cheyne Row in 1834.He lived in No 24.Then it was No.5.With in few years No 5 Cheyne Row became meeting place for writers like Tennyson, Dickens and Browning. Carlyle had a room on the top floor sound proofed.Here he wrote his famous book- “The French Revolution”. Carlyle died in the first floor drawing room in 1881.I n 1895 the house was brought by public subscription and is now London’s first Literary Shrine.
